Our mission

Shutter Blind Directory was created to solve a simple problem: when you search for a shutter or blind installer online, it's hard to know who is genuinely good. Our answer is to curate a directory of businesses with proven customer satisfaction — measured by their Google reviews — and present them in a clear, comparable way.

How we select businesses

We take a deliberate, county-by-county approach. When we launch in a new UK county, we begin by adding five businesses with a 5-star Google rating that specialise in shutters, blinds, awnings or curtains. These become our county top picks — the founding listings that represent quality in that area.

• We expand coverage county by county, adding more businesses over time as we grow the directory.
• Featured partners receive an enhanced profile where they can showcase awards, accreditations and recent projects.

Over time, we add more businesses to each county as the directory grows. Quality remains the priority: we focus on highly rated installers rather than listing every business in a postcode.

Google ratings — our single source of truth

Every rating and review count on a standard listing comes from the business's Google Business Profile. We display this clearly with a Google badge on every listing card and profile page. We do not create our own rating system or blend scores from multiple platforms.

This means when you compare two businesses on our site, you're comparing what their customers have said on Google — nothing more, nothing less. For the most up-to-date ratings, we always link through to Google Maps where available.

How search ranking works

When you search by postcode, we geocode your location and rank nearby businesses using a combination of:

• Google star rating — higher-rated businesses score better
• Review volume — more reviews add confidence to the rating
• Distance — closer businesses are prioritised when scores are similar

Featured partners appear prominently but still display their genuine Google ratings. A featured listing is not a paid way to inflate scores — it's an enhanced profile with additional content about the business.

Standard listings vs featured listings

Standard listings

Every county top pick and subsequent addition gets a standard profile showing the business name, location, services, Google rating, review count, phone number and a link to their Google Maps profile. This is the foundation of the directory.

Featured listings

Featured listings are for businesses that want to go further. In addition to everything in a standard profile, featured partners can showcase:

• Industry awards and accreditations (e.g. Which? Trusted Trader)
• Service highlights and specialisms
• A fuller business story and description of their work
• Enhanced visibility on the homepage and in search results

Featured partners are always clearly labelled. Their Google rating is never altered — only the depth of information around it changes.

Growing county by county

We are not trying to list every window treatment business in the UK on day one. Instead, we build trust by doing each county properly: five excellent businesses first, then more over time. This means some areas won't have coverage yet — but when we launch in your county, you can be confident every listing meets our quality bar.
